I learned so much about myself and the practices of breath work and meditation during the Free Your Mind workshop. Sam creates an extremely supportive environment and presents all the material in a judgement-free way. I've always used physical activity to cope with stress and anxiety, and I didn't have much experience with meditation. By the end of the workshop I had the tools to develop and explore my own meditation practice -- it was truly a life changing experience for me! I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about exploring their own relationship to stress and anxiety or the benefits of meditation.

Sam's classes have been a lot of things to me: a space to grow both as an athlete and a person; an integral part of my weekly schedule, bringing order to otherwise unregulated blocks of time; an escape when I feel I can't do anything right. One thing they have never been is predictable. I have found myself, on many occasions, twisted into a pretzel and wondering why I keep doing this to myself -- coming to this class that, each and every time, forces me to acknowledge, and then dismiss, my perceptions of my own physical limitations in ways I had never considered before. At the end of every class, as I lay in savasana, I come to the same conclusion: I'm not doing this to myself, I'm doing this for myself. Over the past 2.5 years, through various classes and meetings under Sam's supervision, I have gotten to know myself better than I had over the preceding 20-odd years combined. As someone who attempted several times in the past to step into the yoga practice and simply didn't find the proper connection to sustain, I believe Sam brings a level of approachability to the practice without trivializing the combined physical, mental, and spiritual elements. At the same time, she makes every student feel welcome in her practice spaces, regardless of their motivation for practice and depth of commitment to the practice.

I’ve been taking Sam’s yoga classes for about 6 years now! Big picture-wise, it's really nice to have an instructor who also climbs, as her practice feels nicely complimentary to the sport. Every class is challenging but what’s always consistent is the focus on the mind-body connection. Every class ends on a spiritual note. Recently, Sam incorporated a 10 minute breath work practice at the end of a class, and it was wonderful! A couple weeks later I was on the sharp end, sport climbing after a really long break, and I was pretty anxious. I had done the route before but mid-climb, I felt myself starting to freak out. My breaths were getting more shallow. I used the three-part breath work Sam taught us, and I recovered my breath! I slowed my breath down, my head and nerves cleared, and I completed the route. The more I climb, the more convinced I am that 50% of climbing is mental. If you are able to keep your head and your breath, you’ll find a good amount of success.

My yoga practice has been really instrumental in being able to perform physically in other sports. Sam is very aware of how important mindfulness is in any physical practice, and so the learning in her classes has been so helpful. Can’t recommend her enough!

I did the 7 week online "free you mind" course with Sam during covid and it was great! Each week I look forward to gaining deeper insight and building on past practices with Sams deep knowledge!

The group was open and trusting making it easy to engage in conversation, enjoy questions and insight from other people and expand your thinking of situations you or someone you know may experience.

Sam facilitating questions and covered topics from both a science and non-science perspective and also linking the gaps between the two which was beautiful and important to see where they meet. I could take away at least (if not more) one practice or new "thought" from each week to incorporate into daily or situation practices. It gently guided me to finding and keeping my mediation practice and breath awareness that works to support me.

Would 100% recommend this!
